Dad Camps Out In Shelter Parking Lot To Adopt Tiny Pup

Robert Lucas III fell in love with a silky terrier he saw at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter, and “made it known that that was the dog he wanted and he didn’t want any other dog,” according his father, Robert Lucas Jr.

Unfortunately, the terrier, named Gibbs, had several other suiters, and dog adoptions are first come, first served.  So what is a dad to do?

Wait overnight – from 11pm-8am – in the parking lot.

His vigil ended in triumph.  Was it worth a stiff neck and sleepless night?

“I don’t regret one second of it,” Lucas said. “From the time my son wakes up to the time he goes to bed, he’s talking about the dog. He’s very excited to have him, and he’s his new best friend. They are inseparable.”

It’s like Black Friday for shelter dogs!
